Enterprise gave the world its first look at NASA’s space shuttle orbiters—a new type of space vehicle. The Comoros Islands are located off the coast of Mozambique in southeastern Africa. Their fanciful stamp designs often featured subjects of global interest. This example highlights the space shuttle Enterprise and its namesake, the starship Enterprise from the television series Star Trek. Also depicted on the stamp is Austrian scientist Eugen Sänger, who developed designs for rocket planes beginning in the 1930s. The spacecraft above his head resembles one of his space plane designs.
