Made entirely of cardboard, this three-dimensional installation invites us to reflect on creation and on the changes and transformations matter has undergone since that first moment. It also contemplates how we behold beauty (birth and death).
“Creatures instinctively fight for survival, for their individuality, for the capacity to reason and to milk the earth, fire, water and air of all their possibilities. Cardboard, scissors, glue, and everything that has ever been experienced or done by man, learned from nature and, consciously or unconsciously, from dreams….Complex Creation, the title of this installation, is all of that, it’s the continuity of a shared endeavour, in constant transformation. Everything that needs to be, remains”.
Valter Lano studies the gaze, trying to express perceptions through forms and symbols. His art is always exhibited as a springboard toward reflection, never as an end in itself. Lano started off down this path after reading a Freudian text about transitoriness, an idea he has incorporated in films, photos and book-object. His current route is through the concrete and the invisible, dualities that are ever-present in our existence.
