This microscope tube has a consistent diameter and slides inside a fixed outer drum using a rack mechanism on the back face, which is controlled by a pair of side screws for coarse focusing. The fixed outer drum is held in place with an arm that extends from the round back pillar. The stage is black and rectangular with a pair of clips to hold the sample to be examined in place. On the underside of the stage is a disc with holes of various diameters used to control the intensity of the light reflected by a mirror below. The stage is supported by 2 pedestals with an articulated joint system allowing the main body of the microscope to tilt. The round pedestal is supported by a heavy, clover-shaped black iron base.
