HA Chonghyun (1935- ) is one of the celebrated, influential artists of Korean abstract art. The production of his “Conjunction” series, which is an encounter between pigment and linen, continued for about thirty five years from 1974 to 2009, while making the series what defines the world of 하’s art. The artist wrote a whole new chapter of abstract painting by doing away with the idée fixe of applying paint on a surface and by inventing an original technique of pushing pigment frontward from the back of the surface material. In this work shown here which is one of the works of his “Conjunction” series of the 2000s, the traces of the brush or some kind of pictographs highlight the actions of the artist even more.
