Glass slide from the lecture collection of Lt Col G.H. Parker, entitled 'The Fascination and Fame of the Gold Coast'. Lt Col Parker was born in 1886 and served in both World Wars, receiving the Military Cross. He served with the Gold Coast Regiment for four years, stationed in Coomasie (Kumasi). During this time and whilst travelling through Iraq, the Syrian Desert and Palestine on a return journey home to England, Lt Col Parker photographed and made notes of his travels which resulted in his touring lectures series. He was a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
