Rio de Janeiro, RJ. [inglês][datilografado]
Dear Mr. Portinari:
I wanted to tell you before you left how much I liked the murals in the Library of Congress. I had hoped to see you and your wife in Washington or
New York, but something seemed to prevent us from meeting. I have seen quite a lot of the Mignones, and they are still interested in our ballet. I wish we could have seen each other together, but you had already left when the Mignones arrived.
Unfortunately, our ballet will not be in Rio this year. The Russian Ballet will be there, and the Teatro Municipal naturally cannot take two big companies. However, Mr. Balanchine and my self have been invited to Buenos Aires to work at the Colon Theatre. On my way down to Argentina I want very much to stop over in Rio and talk to you about the possibility of a ballet for next year. I realize these collaborations take a very long time and need the most careful thought. I am very much attracted also the idea of the Festival of the Caterineta that Camargo Guarnieri spoke to me about in Sao Paulo. In any case, before making a decision I would like to have the opportunity to talk to you.
When I am in Rio I also would like very much to be able to purchase for The Museum of Modern Art some of the drawings and studies either for the Washington mural, or the older drawings for the murals in the Ministry of Education. I hope you have not disposed of all of these and that I may be able to obtain some.
Will you please remember me most kindly to your brother, and particularly to your wife. My wife joins me in sending you most cordial greetings.
Lincoln Kirstein
