Lev Samoilovich Bakst was a Russian painter, graphic artist, scenery and costume designer and illustrator who studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. He was an active member of “Mir Iskusstva” (World of Art). Bakst worked at the theatres of London, New York, Rome, Brussels and Paris. He decorated books and journals for children and created costumes for the famous actors: Anna Pavlova, Mikhail Fokine, Vaslav Nijinsky, and others.
