In addressing the theme of marketplaces,
we took a close look at the identities
of both buyers and sellers within these
areas. Buyers walk through markets
observing items on display, approaching
items and shops that they are interested
in to ultimately make a purchase. On the
other hand, sellers set up their displays to
attract buyers into purchasing items. The
relationship between these two roles is
what creates and defines the atmosphere
and system of the marketplace. This
pavilion takes this relationship and
emphasizes the important component of
using displays to ‘prop up’ the items, and
‘offer’ them to consumers. The sub-theme
is food. Different from other sub-themes,
the theme of food would naturally evoke
the act of ‘eating’. Here, we have created
a space where visitors can take time
to relax and enjoy a meal while being
surrounded by displays that are often
seen within the marketplace.
