Amphoroid crater. Flat disc-base; piriform body; wide, concave neck; horizontal rim; wide, flat handles from rim to shoulder. Hard, buff clay; lustrous, buff slip; lustrous orange red to reddish brown paint. Base and lower body painted; bands encircling lower body; bands encircling mid-body; nautical scene on either side of upper body and shoulder; ship (FM 40.1) with high mast, framed by dots and ending with semi-circles; stem decorated with hooked-shaped projections and on the other stands a bird (FM 7.29); decked ship with four male figures (FM 1.25) under deck, working with the sail-cloth (?); two big, long-robed, male figures on deck holding a steering-oar; ships framed by large, male figures; on one side both holding a steering-oar; on other side only one figure visible who has arms bent forward against the ship; conventionalized nautilus shells and dotted circles as filler ornaments; neck painted; groups of transverse strokes on rim; inside of neck painted.
