With 97 passengers and crew aboard the Hindenburg, 62 miraculously survived the inferno. Pictured is Adolf Fisher, a mechanic assigned to engine car #2, giving a quick smile as he is transferred by ambulance for further treatment. Fisher continued working as a mechanic on airships, later serving aboard Hindenburg's sister ship, LZ-130 Graf Zeppelin II.
