This hyaenid Crocuta crocuta ultima was recovered from the Penghu Channel off the shores of western Taiwan in the Taiwan Strait. Hyaena is middle to large sized carnivores. They have strong and powerful molars which can crush bones into pieces easily. They mainly eat carrion and small animals. They were widely distributes in the north of China during Pleistocene and extended to Taiwan in the Late Pleistocene.
