From the late 1950s to the middle 1960s HONG JONG-MYOUNG(1922- )'s works showed a style of Abstract Expressionism that at that time dominated the art scene. While Hong has generally created works on things Korean, he is a sincere christian. In this work Hong expressed crucifixion of Christ and disciples on behalf of redemption of human beings in Abstract Expressionistic style. The artist intended to express phases of the times(dehumanization by the war etc.) and self-reflection by creating many religious paintings from the middle 1950s to the 1960s.
