In the summer of 1910, Glenn H. Curtiss and several other well-known pilots participated in the Mid-West Aviation Meet, held July 23-27 at Omaha. Flights were promised not only by Curtiss but also by pilots J.C. Mars and John McCurdy. Curtiss was planning to attend the state fair in Lincoln that fall, where the Wright brothers' "aeropleanes" were scheduled to be, but the Omaha Aero Club was able to entice him to Omaha in July, offering him $10,000. On the final day Curtiss received the World-Herald trophy for the Most Spectacular Flight During Aviation Meet.
