Although without inscriptions, this figure of Cupid has been identified with the marble sculpture created by Francesco Saverio Citarelli, which was exhibited at the Bourbon Exhibition of 1841. Arranged on a mechanical support allowing rotation, Cupid is unusually portrayed as a mortal child, rather than a blindfolded god. The figure elegantly turns with naturalistic ease.
