Dai ni Kalavo (rat trap)

Dai ni Kalavo. Rat trap. Composite object, made of bitu (bamboo), kau (wood), and vau (hibiscus fibre). The dai ni kalavo consists of a tubular long piece of bitu, with the front opening cut at an angle. The are two holes cut on the top and bottom of the bitu, near the end. A stick is put through the holes with 4 pieces (two at the top and two at the bottom) placed on either side of the stick. Strips of vau are wrapped around the pieces of kau, securing the pieces of kau to the stick. The stick extends and curves across the bitu, and has a cord made of vau, tali rua (two-ply), wrapped around the stick's end. The cord is threaded through three holes pierced at the top of the bitu, thus securing the stick, and creating tension in the stick and cord. The is a small stick also tied to the cord, near the end of the stick. There is a fourth hole pierced at the top of the bitu.
