The 3 panels woven on a footloom are embroidered together by specialist embroiderers. This type of embroidery is called locally a “ranta” and it is one of the decorative elements which distinguishes this traditional huipil. It is made with colors characteristic of the place. In recent years, other colors have become fashionable. The "ranta" of Quetzaltenango huipils is also embroidered with floral patterns.
