The story reveals the struggles and challenges young people face in present-day Nigeria and abroad. WAKAA! The Musical takes you on an emotional roller coaster and is a strong satire of Nigeria’s politics.
TOSAN is the patriotic Nigerian who falls in love with Kike the extravagant and frivolous girl from a rich home. He is a radical revolutionary who believes so much in the prospects of Nigeria as a great nation, free of corruption. Tosan with his brilliant ideas and strategies help his uncle win the gubernatorial election. Tosan is appointed a special adviser to the governor on youth affairs. He is allocated a beautiful house, a luxurious car and his personal security team. Asking Kike to become his wife was easier than he imagined. He has a lineup of great ideas on the governor’s desk waiting to be executed. Once they are executed, the lives of the people in the state will change for the better. Tosan seems unstoppable. The only thing holding his plans for the good people of the state, like his uncle the governor says, is lack of funds. Tosan is assured by his uncle that once the funds are allocated, everything will be executed as he proposed. Tosan’s life is just perfect. Little did he know that his proposed projects were used to siphon money by his uncle and associates.
Tosan falls on hard times following his anti-corruption stance and mantra for change
KIKE is the pampered, over-indulged daughter of a wealthy Nigerian businessman. All she desires is to become the wife of a wealthy man, travel around the world, shop in the best and most expensive shops outside Nigeria, and take life one luxurious day after the other. She sticks to Tosan because he is of good looks, smart and above all, has a very bright future. She, like Tosan, has her own dreams. She sees herself becoming the first lady someday.
NGOZI the serious humanitarian and kind-hearted medical doctor wants to give back to the community. Ngozi is determined to use her education and position to combat child labour, child trafficking and actively partake in all other forms of community service and development. She meets a wealthy businessman Cletus, who turns out to be her benefactor. Cletus’ almost zero education is a challenge but once you get past the exterior, one finds a passionate idealist.
REX is a flamboyant, happy go lucky dancer who sets up a dance studio and parades himself as an artist and a promoter of art. He is a social climber. Having tasted poverty in life, Rex has sworn to make it and to make it at all cost, whether by hook or by crook. His plan to get rich quick, involves him checking out of Nigeria. Scraping up every kobo he has to his name, and with Cassandra’s assistance, he makes the trip to England. His first of many disappointments to come is meeting Cassandra in person. She turns out to be nothing of the person he has been dating for well over a year. Both in-person and character, Cassandra turns out to be a lie, not the beautiful sweet lady he met on social media.
Rex gets deported back to Nigeria, he returns to his dance studio business, swindling some unsuspecting youths of some money. His world crumbles when his false lifestyle and fake promises are exposed. He losses all and becomes lonely and contrite.
