A mortar is known as kunda and a pestle as danda in Punjab. It is used for a range of kitchenbased activities that include husking and hulling grains, and the preparation of spice powders and dry masalas. The danda in the featured example is made of wood with stripes of pink colour painted on it and the kunda is made of stone.
