A tailored suit of soft materials has feminine elements mixed tailoring that originated from men's clothing. During World War I women's clothing shifted drastically towards higher functionality, and daily clothing like this suit, allowing more freedom of movement, became popular.
John Redfern opened his shop at London in 1881, and gained popularity due to his tailored suits and sportswear. Later he opened shops in Paris and New York. In 1916 he was received orders from the Red Cross for women's uniforms designs.
