Siemens & Halske's DC motor was popular around 1900. Machines of this type were built with power ratings of 2 to 120 hp. This device is the smallest in this series.
At the bottom, in the middle, are two upright cylinders – the two coils – which are wrapped around the two legs of a horseshoe magnet. The ends of these legs stick out at the top of the coils as curved objects that hold the machine's armature. Above this is a horseshoe magnet.
There is a wheel (the pulley) for a drive belt at the front. The commutator is inside a brass drum at the back. This converts the generated alternating current to direct current.
Two upright yellow copper oil drums are located at the front and back. This oil lubricates the bearings of the shaft with armature, commutator, and pulley. Both drums have a lever for the valve.
