The Drawing Year Alumni, 2014. Salma Ali studied illustration at the Birmingham City University in 2009, and graduated in 2011. Her work is autobiographical in nature and reflects on her own life and those of her friends, family and acquaintances, through the use of dark humour and symbolic and hallucinatory images. Her paintings and drawings are influenced by Cuban, Spanish, Indian and Mexican art.
