Terry Fox is one of the central figures of West Coast performance art, the Conceptual Art movement and Fluxus, all major trends in both the US and European art scenes during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He studied painting at the Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle, and later at the Academia Di Belli Arti in Rome. Before permanently moving to Europe, he lived in San Francisco in 1968. His works include performances, street actions, videos, sound installations, objects and installations based on the conceptual experiments he carried out in relation to the use of the body, sound, and language. Starting with the 1980s, linguistic games become increasingly prominent in Terry Fox’s production. Letters, words, terms, symbols and textual structures such as riddles, ancient scripts, or news headlines form the main components of his sculptures.

"Delineation" essentially involves 12 slats on which letters were mounted, spelling out the word “delineation”. The various meanings of this term can include description, portrayal, presentation, drawing, sketching, and schematisation – which delineates the fact that these performances exist as sketches alone. In order to be unpacked, "Delineation" first requires the viewer to take note of the written element and attempt to read it, and then to try and interpret it, even though it has no immediate significance; thus inviting the audience to invest a constant effort towards appreciating the work.
