Natural History Museum Vienna

Natural History Museum Vienna
Vienna, Austria

29 500 years ago a stone figurine was covered with red ochre and hidden in the ground near Willendorf (Lower Austria).
On August 7th, 1908 a female figurine was unearthed during excavations of the Imperial Natural History Museum – the famous Venus of Willendorf was discovered.
There are also two ivory figurines: Venus 2, an almost complete object and Venus 3, a complete piece with unclear meaning.
