German mining at the global exhibition in Chicago

The Saarbrücker Zeitung newspaper reported on the presentation of German mining at the World's Fair in Chicago in the "Mines and Mining Building" on 8 February 1893. The World's Fair, which always takes place in different cities, has an unbroken tradition to this day and the première of the international exhibition was celebrated in London in 1851. The World's Fair established itself as an international event for technology and craft during the heyday of industrialisation. Saarland was represented at the exhibition in Chicago by the Baron of Berlepsch who was the Minister for Trade and Commerce at the time. His involvement also made it possible to create an extensive presentation of mining and metallurgy in the Saar region. The aim of this innovative exhibition was to promote future export transactions, whether it be for technology or raw materials.
