Design for a Public Monument to be Erected on a Paris Square

Recto: In the midst of a plaza, above a basin and fountain cloud of mist, is a colossal globe monument, showing Africa, Europe and Asia above the clouds. On top is a chariot (quadriga) driven by Republican France, accompanied by a winged Liberty. The globe is a symbol of universal equality. People occupy the plaza; some are at the basin's edge. Verso: black chalk sketch of a monument. High pedestal, the bottom part of which is shaped like a tower, rises from narrow basin. At the top stands a figure and chariot.
