This is a piece of four-color weft-faced silk twill that has a soft feel and a clear texture. Its width cannot be determined although parts of the original selvage on its one end have survived. Regarding the ornamental figures, two complete and one over-half floral medallions been preserved to the present day, displaying a gentle and elegant color palette of blue, sage and ecru for patterns on a beige background. With a nicely-crowded composition consisting of various auspicious forms, this piece was a product made out of China’s imitation of the weaving and pattern-designing techniques of Central Asia and West Asia during the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD).
