DHYANI BUDDHA RATNASAMBHAWA STATUE

The Dhyani Buddha Ratnasambhawa is the Buddha from a past incarnation. The way this statue is seated is called wajraparyangka. Both eyes of the Buddha are shut as in deep meditation and he is wearing a sheer robe, covering the body down to his ankles. The hair, on top of his head, is tied into a little bun, which is called ușnīșa
The center of the forehead depicts an ūrņa (third eye), the ear lobes are elongated, and three wisdom lines are visible at the front of his neck. The Buddha's hands are shown in the position of waramudrā, which is a symbol of giving blessings. The left hand is placed on the lap, with it's palm facing up, while the right hand is near the right knee, again with the palm facing up.
The statue of the Dhyani Buddha Ratnasambhawa was originally located on the southern side of the Borobudur Temple, at the arupadhatu level. This is the level where mankind has attained spiritual perfection, and has transcended all worldly ties.
The Borobudur Temple was rediscovered in the 19th century, and has since been restored several times. A comprehensive restoration was undertaken 1973-1983. The Borobudur, as the largest Buddhist structure in the world, has retained it's function as a place of worship for the followers of the Buddha.
