This is a Korean written journal of the Manchu Invasion of 1636 (year 14 of Injo). What King Injo, his vassals and people went though during the war were written down in this journal, but the author and the date of compilation is unknown. The first sentence starts with “September 1589”, and it goes on to describe vividly the following 50 days of war until the Mountain Fortress is besieged and they surrender to the Manchurian army. The author realistically depicts the scene as if he were watching it, thus drawing out reader’s anger and sympathy.
