At the somber ceremony in honor of Frida Kahlo at the Palace of Fine Arts, the funeral prayer was read by the Director of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Institute of Fine Arts), Andrés Iduarte. He was asked to resign shortly afterward, due to the incident with the communist flag, and was replaced by Miguel Álvarez Acosta.
