Real Fossil - Early Ordovician 475 Mya - Morocco
This large assemblage of trilobites is called a transported mass death assemblage. There are over 60 individuals in this assemblage, but only one type of trilobite - Dikelokephalina. This suggests that the spot was a breeding pool, were trilobites gathered to mate and reproduce. All of the trilobites are relatively complete, indicating a dramatic event occurred - such as an underside landslide - which covered the trilobites almost immediately, and they suffocated under the weight of the overlying sediment.
