This fashionable high chair with the “HCF” monogram belongs to a set of mahogany-and-leather dining room chairs made by D. S. Hess and Company for Clayton in the 1880s. When new furniture was commissioned in 1892, these chairs were moved to the breakfast room, where they are seen today. Originally one of two high chairs identical in decoration, it is a touching reminder of how central the Frick children were to life—and meals—at Clayton.
