Phylloxera marked indeed a period of crisis and, at the same time, a turning point in the Douro winegrowing. This pest led to significant changes in the cultivation of vines and helped it grow through new ways of preparing the land and plantation, consisting of new ways of building the schist terraces (VELOSO, 2013: 19-20, 39; PEREIRA, 2010: 145-149, 167-195).
