Because this doll was acquired to complement a collection of educational toys, the owners may have thought it was a Waldorf doll, an intentionally simply made, stylized cloth doll that encouraged a child to use his or her imagination. Such as doll was part of the Steiner-Waldorf method of education which for early childhood emphasizes experiential, imitative, and sensory-based learning. The first schools based on the Steiner-Waldorf approached appeared in Germany in 1919; today, thousands of such school operate in 60 countires.
