Leon Casmir Bru of Paris began a doll-making firm in 1866 and at first produced lady fashion dolls. Although dolls made by the firm continued to bear the Bru name, Bru sold the company to Henri Chevrot in 1883. By 1890, the doll-making company had passed to Paul Giraud. Each owner affected the appearance of the dolls his company produced, but the face of a Bru doll is distinctive and very much appreciated among doll historians and collectors.
