Conta & Boehme, a German pottery well known for a variety of ceramic products--including fairings (tiny figures won at fairs)--maintained operations from about 1800 until 1931. The factory produced the first doll heads in 1845. Although not marked by the manufacturer, Conta & Boehme dolls are often identified by their mouths, which end in a slight upward curl.
