In the early 1970s, Lesney Corporation entered into the mini doll market with its Miss Matchbox series. Miss Matchbox featured 12 dolls with rooted hair, a fashion-forward wardrobe, and a flexible rubber body. Like the company’s Matchbox cars, Miss Matchbox fit into a matchbox. Miss Matchbox seemed like one of Lesney’s attempts to reach a new audience—little girls interested in hair play, collecting, and fashion.
