Horsman Dolls Inc. first offered a Pippi Longstocking cloth doll in 1972. The doll appeared near the time of the 1969 American release of the "Pippi Longstocking" feature-length movie, directed by Olle Hellbom. The movie brought to the screen the characters of Astrid Lindgren's Pippi Longstocking books, the first of which appeared in 1950. The Pippi Longstocking series and subsequent movies based on it spread the popularity of the incredibly strong and strong-willed title character. Pippi's antics and adventures have entertained millions of young girls for half a century. The reissue of a 1988 version of the doll underscores her enduring appeal.
