Three-year-old Rodney Allen Rippy became a household name when he appeared in a commercial for Jack in the Box’s Jumbo Jack Burger. In the 1970s commercial, Rippy was seen trying to wrap his mouth around the super-sized hamburger. The tag line, “It’s too big to eat!” becamee a catchphrase of the year. Shindana released the Talking Rodney Allen Rippy cloth doll. In a 1973 issue of “Ebony,” Shindana marketed that the adorable doll “comes to life by simply pulling his string. At random, Rodney will captivate you with ten (10) of his famous sayings, recorded in his own voice.” In a 1974 issue of the magazine, Shindana touted “Rodney is the adorable little boy of the famous Jack-in-the-Box TV commercial whose infections charisma spreads human warmth.”
