In 1899 several doll-making companies in France, including Jumeau, Bru, Mothereau, and others, combined under the name Societe Francaise de Farbrication des Bebes et Jouets (SFBJ) to lower production costs and therefore better compete against the German-made dolls. SFBJ produced dolls, especially bebes and characters dolls, under its own name but also continued to produce dolls marked with the names of the companies it absorbed.
