Shell art as a popular home craft flourished in the 19th century and as a souvenir of seaside vacation spots. Victorians women decorated all kinds of objects with seashells-trinket boxes, dresser sets, picture frames, mirrors, and dollhouse furniture. Popular magazines of the 1800s such as "Godey's Lady's Book" offered instructions in creating floral arrangements and patterned mosaic pictures made of seashells. Shell dolls, too, became fashionable figures to display in the parlor.
