In 1924, the A. Schoenhut Company of Philadelphia introduced its first soft-bodied dolls. The dolls had the same wooden heads as other Schoenhut toddlers, but these new offerings had stuffed bodies rather than the traditional jointed wooden bodies. The dolls also featured what the company called "Mamma voices," a sound box in the torso that imitated a baby's cry for her mother.
