The Dong people prefer dark plain colors, which they see as a symbol of simplicity, calm and innocence. The seemingly black color on the fabric of this skirt was dyed by soaking the fabric in the organic indigo and rinsing all over for multiple times. And the pleats were created by the Dong women in a process of wrapping the fabric around a cylinder and rolling it horizontally against a hard surface. Wider pleats would be done at initial stages and then the narrower. The fabric will be stored in rolls after the pleats are done.
