These doorplates are from 63 Prince Street, New York City, the home of Samuel L. Gouverneur, Sr. and his wife, Maria Monroe Gouverneur. James Monroe came to live at his daughter's home in 1830 following the death of his wife. He died here on July 4, 1831, five years to the day after his predecessors John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.
