Dr. Hameeda Hossain was born in Hyderabad, Sindh in 1936. She was educated at a convent in Karachi. In those days, she says, there were many Hindu, Christian, and Parsi families in Karachi. Hameeda used to ride her bike to school. After Partition, she went to school and found herself among only 10-15 students. All of the Hindu, Sikh and Christians had migrated. At the same time, she saw trains arriving, carrying injured passengers, many of whom had ben separated from their families. Her grandmother established a clinic and shelter for the refugees where she helped out.
