This page is from a book that contains comprehensive instructions and regulations on the appropriate type of dress to be worn at court. It was first published by the Lord Chamberlain's Office, under the title of 'Dress worn at Court' was in 1903. This was the first time instructions from the Lord Chamberlain's Office had been consolidated into one book, prior to these instructions were given periodically. Updated versions were issued at various times from 1903 until the 1937 edition.

These instructions provided a guide on the appropriate form of dress and set out the distinctions in dress appropriate to particular offices, gradings and rank.

Copies of the Instructions set out in 'Dress Worn at Court' were also made available to firms associated with the production of court and ceremonial dress to enable them to ensure that uniforms produced for their customers conformed to the current regulations.
