Contrary to popular belief, the corset did not disappear in the 20th century. Rather, it was internalized, creating the cultural ideal of the hard body. Westwood’s Vive la Cocotte collection was inspired by nudity, but the “naked” torso is an artfully constructed and embroidered corset bodice — made by the famous corsetier, Mr. Pearl.
