Attracted to the art of painting, Chamaillard was befriended by Gauguin and introduced to his circle in 1888. His talent revealed itself in carved objects and furniture. This rustic-style buffet stands out from Breton furniture of the time, and illustrates the part played by the Pont-Aven School in the European push to modernise interior decor.
