Many households in the 1920s had a table gramophone with mechanical spring motor drive, like this one. It was the fashion of the time for the exterior of the musical device to match the rest of the interior of the apartment, and the technical details to merge with the furniture. The horn is hidden here behind a curtain and the 2 doors at the front. When the lid is closed, only the crank on the side of the cabinet is evidence of a technical device.
