Born in Delft. Worked in Delft and Rotterdam. Painted landscapes, portraits, architecture, peasant genre works and farm still lifes. After witnessing the Delft explosion and the subsequent city fire in 1654, he often painted night fires. In his paintings, tends to merge elements of different genres – landscape, still life and architecture.
