Early crystallography laboratory at Birkbeck

This photograph shows part of an X-ray unit in a laboratory at Birkbeck in around 1940. Notice that this lab is somewhat slim on workshop facilities and, for that matter, on carpenters, as the X-ray cameras are standing on wooden bases rigged up by the crystallography staff.
